In Melbourne, Australia, the multi-storey office building Melbourne Connect was constructed on the site of the former Royal Women’s Hospital, situated right next to the University of Melbourne. The design was created by architecture firms Woods Bagot and Hayball. The approximately 35,000 m² of office space are used by the Melbourne School of Engineering, as well as for private office and commercial purposes.
The HASSLACHER Group, together with HESS Timber, was responsible for the planning and work preparation, and the HASSLACHER Holzbauteile GmbH at the Kleinheubach site handled the production and delivery of nearly 400 m³ of glued laminated timber (glulam) made from spruce wood, including 375 m³ as block-glued composite components.
For HESS TIMBER, Melbourne Connect marks its third multi-storey office building project in Australia: the International House Sydney was completed in 2016, followed by its sister building, the Daramu House Sydney, which was ready for occupancy in 2019. Now, Melbourne Connect is the third building to be completed.
