42 m glulam beam for Australia
The new Wulanda Recreation and Convention Center in Mount Gambier, Australia, includes six multi-purpose halls for various sports, a flexible event room and a covered water sports area. Office space, a daycare center and a cafeteria are also integrated into the building.
The roof structure of the integrated swimming pool was made of wood. For this purpose, HASSLACHER Holzbauteile GmbH & Co. KG, a company of the HASSLACHER Group, supplied 42 m long glued laminated timber beams from the Kleinheubach location - to date the longest timber components made of glued laminated timber ever used in Australia!
Transporting the extra-long glued laminated timber components posed a particular logistical challenge. The original concept of gluing the components together on site using the patented HESS LIMITLESS solution had to be rescheduled at short notice due to the global corona pandemic. The just-in-time delivery to the port in Zeebrugge, Belgium required the smooth coordination of two HASSLACHER Group production sites in Hermagor, Austria, and Kleinheubach, Germany. After delivery by truck, the glued laminated timber components were reloaded onto Multi-Purpose Boogies (MPBs) in the port and then stowed in the ship as so-called break-bulk cargo.
In addition to project management, HESS TIMBER was responsible for the statics as well as the workshop and logistics planning of the glued laminated timber elements in this international project.
