The new headquarters of ZÜBLIN Timber in Aichach, Germany, marks a pioneering administration building in wood-hybrid construction. The five-storey office building combines modern work place design while exceeding the current sustainability standards. The predominant use of the climate-friendly material, wood, and innovative energy concepts lend the new building an efficient building standard of 40 while the construction site was awarded DGNB's pre-certificate for sustainable building.
Its clean and cubic architecture reflects the project's sustainable design principle. In total, the teams installed 720 m³ of PEFC-certified wood, including 450 m³ of LENO® cross-laminated timber for the ceilings and 165 m³ glued-laminated timber for the supports and joists. The building elements were prefabricated to ensure efficient construction and short installation times. The use of regional, sustainably managed forests minimised transport distances, additionally improving the project's environmental balance sheet.
Apart from superstructure design, the building's energy supply was also designed based on the highest ecological standards. The office building utilises renewable energy, including a wood chip heating system that provides heat and solar panels on the greened flat roof. Adiabatic cooling systems contribute to efficient air conditioning. Innovative room design based on the New Work concept offers 123 work places with flexible arrangements.
The HASSLACHER Group's services
In the scope of this project, the HASSLACHER Group delivered roughly 50 m³ of block-glued spruce pillars and supports from its Hermagor site (HASSLACHER Holzbausysteme GmbH). These timber construction elements were manufactured precisely and accurately which meet the structural and architectural requirements of this building. The elements were delivered just in time to support the smooth building process.
We thank our long-term partner, ZÜBLIN Timber, for trusting in the quality of HASSLACHER’s products.
